2009 Inge Morath Award Winner Announced

The Inge Morath Foundation and the The Magnum Foundation are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2009 Inge Morath Award.

This award of $5000 is given annually to a female documentary photographer under the age of 30, in memory of the late Magnum photographer Inge Morath.

The 2009 winner is Emily Schiffer (USA), for her project “Cheyenne River.” Emily is the founder of a photography program for youths on Cheyene River Reservation in South Dakota, and the Award is given to continue her work with Native American children. Her images can be viewed at: www.emilyschiffer.com.

The finalist for the 2009 Award is Jenn Ackerman (USA) for her project "Trapped: Mental Illness in America's Prisons." Jenn's photographs may be viewed at www.jennackerman.com.

The winner's and finalist's submissions will be uploaded to the IM Foundation web site shortly. Please check back.

Thanks to all who applied for the ‘08 Award. The winner and finalists were selected by the attending members of Magnum Photos on June 26th, 2009 in London, at the annual Magnum meeting. Submissions were prepared and presented by the Inge Morath Foundation, which also participated in the selection.

We were pleased to have had the opportunity to look at your photographs, and wish you the best for your future work. All applicants who meet the Award guidelines are encouraged to re-submit their work for consideration in 2010.
